[GPS_Standard] MonTrol Issue with Control Window.

Hi Rich,

In order for Montrol to send a new parameter value to the PIC, you must
enter the numeric value and then press Enter. If you read back the
parameters afterwards, the new velue should stay. I have had a couple of
users asking this same question, so I have added a note in the Montrol
section of my website.

Regarding the MAX232, it is a solid chip. Do you use a Laptop? Laptop are
notorious for not meeting the RS-232 standard. Regardless, I suggest you try
with another PC. I have implemented the MAX232 chip on both the T/R
Sequencer and the Battery Cycler projects. Maybe you could compare your
implementation with mine. The articles are both available for download on my
website. If none of this works, you will have to bring out a scope and start
probing both directions. Also check the charge pump electrolytic capacitors,
those on pins 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the MAX232 chip. Make sure you see clean
voltages greater than +9V and lower than -9V there.

Best Regards and Happy Holidays,

Bert, VE2ZAZ

Subject: [GPS_Standard] MonTrol Issue with Control Window.

I have my Frequency Standard up and running for a few days using a Datum
LPRO Frequency Standard as the reference oscillator.

It took a while to get it up and running as I am using a Garmin GPS-25HVS
and could not get the 1pps output to work. After trying 3 different units I
figured out that the 1 pps output was not enabled and had to be turned on by
sending a command string to the GPS Engine. This turned out to be difficult
to do using the windows terminal program. I then found a program on the
Garmin web site http://www.garmin.com/oem called " snsrcf.exe " This
program allows you set all the engine switch's including turning on the 1
pps output and the Position Pinning mode discussed in the user manual.

Another problem I am having is changing the FLL Parameters using the MonTrol
Control Window. I will make changes to some of the parameters in the window,
and then a few cycles later it will change back to original setting. This is
especially true of the Averaging Cycle size. I have to go into the windows
terminal program and send a Syyzz command to change it.
Any body have any ides what I am doing wrong?
The values I plug into the boxes on the Control window are regular decimal
values correct?

I also am having problems getting the TTL to RS232 converter to work
correctly. I have a PCBA that uses the MAX 232A chip. I get scrambled data
or none at all into the computer. What is working is a FTDI TTl to USB
Converter cable. I am using this short term, but intend to use the Max
converter when I get it working.

Thanks for the Help

Rich KQ6EF
