There are a lot of Gonset Communicators out there sitting on shelves.
How about starting up a 2M AM Net in your city.
Your local club could advertise it.
Colorado Springs has an AM Net every Wednesday, 7PM Local, on 145.550.
The net has been going for about 10 years with 5 or 6 Gonsets and now
only 1 Gonset and a dozen other modern VHF radios.
There is some Air Craft image traffic on 145.550 (-12) but it is not bad.
Only Gonsets have the image problem.
If you have an image problem you can pick a frequency that has no Aircraft traffic
or install a cavity filter in the antenna line.
