On the G-76 that I owned for a little while, the calibration on the VFO dial is, to be blunt, a farce! You can generally tell which band you "might" be close to, but, you just have to spot it on the receiver and pay any real attention to the VFO calibration. The size of the dial just doesn't lend itself to any real level of calibration.

I HAVE A G-76 THAT I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON.. I HAVE WORKED ON SEVERAL,
BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE RUN INTO THIS PROBLEM.
I HAVE FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE BOOK ABOUT SETTING THE VFO ,
BUT THE SPOTTING CONTROL WILL NOT SET THE VFO ON THE RIGHT FREQUENCY.
IF I USE A FREQUENCY COUNTER I CAN SET IT TO THE RIGHT FREQUENCY BUT IT DOSEN'T AGREE WITH THE VFO DIAL.
THE RECIEVER IS ALIGNED PERFECTLY USING A CALIBRATED HP 8640B SIGNAL GENERATOR
