Very strange thing with my newly acquired G-50. It was working fine, but
then suddenly got intermittant, then quit receiving. "Aha!" sez I, must
be a capacitor gone bad. In checking, I found only 50V on the plate of
the HF Oscillator (1/2 6U8). But no bad bypasses. Ohmeter indicated very
high resistance, as should be.
To make a long story short, the ceramic trimmer on the tuning capacitor
was bad. It was not shorted, but arced internally enough to cause the
problem. Replaced it, and all OK again.
Not the case of it being the most likely thing.
