You might check this out. Don't have the book handy to look at it myself.
QST ran an article in July 1970, page 15, called "Updating the Gonset
Communicator". FM was starting to gain some interest. The 70's had lots
of articles and hinks in the various ham magazines on how to convert
(shutter at the word) AM rigs over to FM.
