Hi everyone,
I wanted to put out an invitation to look for me on the air this weekend. I’m going to have the unusual opportunity to participate in two contests from two different states at the same time!
I’ll be on top of High Knob in Pike County, PA (FN21KH) with the South Jersey Mountain Toppers ARC, W2EA, for the ARRL September VHF Contest.
We’ll be operating from 2,047 feet above sea level, with activity planned on:
* 6 meters – 50.133 MHz
* 2 meters – 144.185 MHz
* 222 MHz – 222.105 MHz
* 432 MHz – 432.105 MHz
* 1296 MHz – 1296.105 MHz liaison
* 10 GHz – available by sked
The High Knob site is in FN21KH at 2,047 feet, and those are the planned operating frequencies from our team operations plan.
For the microwave folks, 10 GHz WILL be available by sked. If you think you have a shot at us on 10 GHz, let’s try it! Call or text me at 609-743-7676 and we can coordinate a sked while we’re on the mountain.
We’ll also have meteor scatter activity during the early morning hours, so there should be plenty going on throughout the weekend. The current operating plan has meteor scatter scheduled from 4:00–7:00 AM EDT.
I’ll be one of the operators rotating through the W2EA stations. If you hear W2EA from FN21KH, please give us a call. I’d really enjoy getting a bunch of familiar calls into the log.
At the same time, I’m going to try something I’ve never done before.
While sitting on the mountain in Pennsylvania, I’ll be remoting into my home HF station in South Jersey as N2LQH and making contacts in the New Jersey QSO Party.
So depending on where you are and what bands you have available, you have two ways to find me:
VHF/UHF/Microwave: W2EA – FN21KH
HF / NJ QSO Party: N2LQH – Burlington County, NJ
You don’t have to be putting in a serious contest effort. Get on for a few minutes and give us some points! I’d love to see how many friends, club members, and familiar calls I can put into the logs.
I only got back into amateur radio late last year after being away from it for about 30 years, and contesting has quickly become one of my favorite parts of the hobby. One of the things I’ve enjoyed most is meeting so many people and then hearing those familiar calls come back to me during a contest.
So if you hear W2EA or N2LQH this weekend, please give me a call!
