Hi Bob,
As the club's designated "Antenna Elmer", I am happy to tell you that you
have several choices. A 40m End Fed Half Wave is 66 feet long, and will
work on 40m, 20m, 15m, and 10m, probably without an external tuner. An End
Fed Random Wire can be various lengths, and will work on several bands
using a wide range tuner. Your choice here may be decided by whether you
have such a tuner in your shack, or if you don't, whether you are willing
to buy one.
But before I go any further, let's first determine a few things, with a few
specific questions: Which bands were you looking to operate? And which
modes? How much power do you plan to run? Do you want to feed this antenna
using coax, or would you be up for trying some ladder line? How far would
the feed point be from the transmitter? And finally, what do you plan to
use this for, for example, DX work or just local or regional nets?
The answers to these questions will very likely affect the choice that you
ultimately make, so please reply the best that you can, and I will tailor
my suggestions toward your particular plans. I await your reply.
