Cole -- going back to the response in my text... Is the radio a dual-band
radio, or a single band 2-meter unit? If the radio is a dual band radio,
it is always best to use a dual-band antenna so as to prevent
inadvertent damage to the radio caused by accidental key-up on the 70cm
band. As to the need for a mag mount, is this for a vehicle installation,
or is it for use in the dorm room and the mag mount is for convenience
there?

What is the make and model of the radio? I cannot tell anything from the
photo sent in the text other than it is a Yaesu radio.

I have an ED Fong 2050W dual-band J-pole that you can borrow once we are
square, and it can easily be mounted to the vertical wall of the dorm using
the 3M Command Adhesive strips and some ZIP ties.
