[GCARC] Pictures from space start today - try the new app - operate tomorrow from the clubhouse

We're getting some good pictures from the ISS today. The images are encoded with the Robot 36 encoding mode, not the usual PD120 process, so be sure you have the right mode set in your decoder.

The images that we're downloading are being pushed up to the Skunkworks website and can be viewed at https://wp.w2mmd.org/wp/club-activities/iss-sstv-images/

For hobbyists who want to look at all of the images there's a multi-step process for grabbing them from the GCARC SatNOGS feed. This assumes that you have Audacity and MMSSTV running on your computer and have used Virtual AUdio Cable or some equivalent program to create a virtual cable:

1 - Go to the SatNOGS observations site and select an ISS observation that's listed as SSTV. That site is at https://network.satnogs.org/observations/?station=223
2 - Find the Audio Download button on that site and download the audio file to your PC.
3 - Open that file in Audacity and set the output destination to your virtual audio cable.
4. Open MMSSTV and set the RX input to that virtual audio cable. Set the RX mode to Robot 36.
5. In Audacity click on the wave form when it starts to tighten to the SSTC signal and hit Play. That will pipe the SSTV audio from Audacity into the MMSSTV decoder and you'll start seeing SSTV images appear before your eyes.

For detailed instructions on setting up your station to decode ISS SSTV images from SatNOGS see the "Receiving ISS SSTV Images" page on the Skunkworks website under "Technical Resources" at this link: https://wp.w2mmd.org/wp/receiving-iss-sstv-images/

The Russian SSTV transmitter started sending SSTV pictures this morning. We picked it up on our SatNOGS feed (https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fnetwork.satnogs.org%2Fobservations%2F13768529%2F&data=05%7C02%7C%7C3a812fe5aca949703a3308de970642fa%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C639114250299026965%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=GmjtwvY3OuB5T9G%2FHdALIsCsLul0K4uPVU0vBIr%2BIzw%3D&reserved=0<https://network.satnogs.org/observations/13768529/>) from a direct overhead pass but the signal wasn't strong enough to decode. Perhaps it will get better with later passes.

A new promising satellite tracking program called Ham Satting is out that may be helpful during this session because it includes a SSTV decoder. It's available for most platforms including Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. Check it out at https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.unixeer.com%2Fham_satting%2F&data=05%7C02%7C%7C3a812fe5aca949703a3308de970642fa%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C639114250299062773%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=Prpd0wROvhQj74KUPB3JSu6ysIFi5qA34M61ECVUcNM%3D&reserved=0<https://www.unixeer.com/ham_satting/>.

Tomorrow is an especially good day for satellite operating from the clubhouse so stop by if you're interested. The schedule is on the Skunkworks website under Club Activities at https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwp.w2mmd.org%2Fwp%2Fsaturday-satellite%2F&data=05%7C02%7C%7C3a812fe5aca949703a3308de970642fa%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C639114250299087746%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=pfO97LsTVVwRSeENad%2FUIPDKZwreHIpuR49%2BABzddOQ%3D&reserved=0<https://wp.w2mmd.org/wp/saturday-satellite/>.
