Hi Mary...

The Icom IC-7300 is a good radio, but it does have its drawbacks,  The
front end is not the best, leaving the radio with performance under certain
conditions that is somewhat less than optimal.  If you can live with that,
the radio is not a bad choice, and is generally good value for the price,

I have an Icom IC-7300 and I like it.  I have also operated numerous other
copies of this radio at friends' and customers'  locations, as well as at
the Clubhouse (the Club has one there) often as related to a repair.  In
almost all cases, the repair ends up being either to the tuner or to the
antenna, but seldom to the radio.

There is one major, in my mind, failure to which the IC-7300 is
susceptible, that could be especially troublesome to MacOS users.  It seems
that the RTC battery in this radio, for some reason known to Icom  but
*not* repaired,
also for reasons known to Icom, will sometimes fail to receive proper
charging current.  This leaves the radio with a failed RTC feature.  If you
care that your radio shows the correct date and time, then this would be an
annoyance.

Icom issued a software utility that will sync the radio date and time with
the attached host computer, but the utility will run only on the Windows
platform.  Some users have been successful using an emulator, but many
others have not.   In some cases, I have installed an auxiliary coin cell
to operate the RTC, with a series diode to prevent potential charging of
the non-rechargeable CR2032 coin cell used.  This solves the problem of the
dead RTC, but it then creates a periodic maintenance task of coin cell
replacement.
