We launched another battery-powered balloon today from the Woodruff School, this time with newly-upgraded Angela Metzger's KE2DRJ callsign on it. We insulated the battery with several layers of EVA foam and tape, which seems to be keeping it from freezing even at reported temps of -23 decrees C. At this time it's at 21k feet over mid-Vermont riding a strong 70 knot wind northwest.
If the battery doesn't freeze and the balloon doesn't burst it's predicted to float up over Newfoundland and then turn east. If interested you can track it at the link below. Click on the "Float" button next to the KE2DRJ callsign to see the predicted path, which is pretty wild. It's unlikely that the battery will hold out until then, but perhaps we'll see an interesting ride.
