[GCARC] Pack Rats Special Activity

To expand on Al's comment, the VHF team will be operating the Clubhouse VHF station on Saturday afternoon continuing into the night based on availability of operators. VHF contesting is significantly different from HF contesting - it's slower and more deliberate in that contacts are harder to achieve and in many cases one station may make multiple sequential contacts on different bands with the same remote station. The new VHF equipment greatly facilitates these contacts, and the operators use several software programs for running the Flex transceiver, operating digital modes and keeping the contest logs. This creates multiple learning opportunities for anyone interested in contesting without the high pressure of an HF contest, and also demonstrates how VHF and UHF operation uses transverters to operate on the higher bands.

The VHF team is looking for additional operators who can run the station, particularly during the evening hours. If you're interested please email Al or me or just show up at the clubhouse around noontime on Saturday to get involved. We already have a state of the art set of equipment, and with the new VHF towers and antennas coming on line throughout the year we expect the GCARC to become a powerhouse in VHF operating, so join in now to get in on the excitement.
