After several postponements, looks like there's a NASA sounding rocketmission targeting launching three rockets tonight from Wallops launchfacility in VA.  We may be able to see something in the sky from them herein SNJ.  Launch window opens after 10pm, with exact launch time not yetspecified. Best to follow on their social media and livestream which startsfive minutes before launch (details in links that follow). The TOMEX mission page describes that the first two rockets, which launchwithin one minute of each other, will release vapor tracers - colorfulclouds made from compounds similar to those in fireworks - which they willphotograph from the ground to map upper-atmospheric wind patterns.  Thethird rocket, launched about five minutes later, will carry a lidarinstrument to take additional measurements.I've not had much luck seeing these before, because the sky near my houseis bright with streetlights, and the color cloud is faint. But who knows? Imay try again tonight.  If you are lucky enough to be at the Jersey Shore,or otherwise away from city lights when looking South, that may help you.Key in any situation is knowing when the rockets are actually going to belaunched within the launch window.  The social media and livestream willhelp with that. The graphics on the blog site imply 10-30 seconds afterlaunch, we might be able to see something when looking South from NJ.Links to their social media and to the livestream from the range's blogsite, https://www.nasa.gov/blogs/wallops-range/Good luck to any of you night owls who attempt to check tonight.73, Jim______________________________________________________________GCARC mailing listHome: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/gcarcHelp: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htmPost: mailto:GCARC at mailman.qth.netThis list hosted by: http://www.qsl.netPlease help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
