Todd,
I don't know anything about bats in the attic, but I do know that working
stateside off the back of an HF beam is pretty common and fairly easy.
Even if they are down by 10-20 dB, if Europe is coming in at 10-20 over S9,
the stateside guys can still be close to S9 with no problems. The only
real nulls occur off the ends of the elements. Therefore, if you aim the
beam at Greece or Italy, maybe a heading of 60 degrees or so, you will have
a strong null at 90 degrees from that, which would be toward the Caribbean
islands. The stateside guys will be behind you, and will be down a bit,
but will not be in a null. And remember, the beamwidth of an HF Yagi can
be pretty wide, so it is less like a laser beam, and more like a flood
light. Hope this helps! 73 for now.
