[GCARC] You'd probably like to have an HF station like this

Hackaday is always an interesting newsletter, especially when it covers ham topics, but this one is especially fascinating for HF ops. It describes the High-Frequency Global Communications System which is a backup for other military systems in case of a global catastrophe. Most hams would dream of such a system that utilize the LPH-89 HF log periodic antenna that's 92 feet by 182 feet x160 feet, is fed by 3-1/8" hardline, weighs 17,000 lbs and can handle 150 mph winds. The antenna is rated at 25 kw, probably surpassing the needs of most amateurs - but it would be pretty cool to have that as your max power limit. For HOA residents the 120 foot tower that retracts into the ground could allow significant operating time while avoiding prying eyes.
