All,
Now that we have our new Statewide ARRL/ARES Local Agreement with the American Red Cross (ARC) New Jersey Region, I need to make sure that we are all aware of a couple of modifications.
1. This new agreement with the ARC states, when the ARC NJ Region needs to activate ARES, they will do so by contacting Jamie Pugh (N2VVL) Mercer County, Assistant Emergency Coordinator (AEC). Jamie has been working with the ARC for many years and will also act as NCS during an ARC Disaster Relief Operation (DRO) anywhere in NJ. Naturally, Jamie will have sufficient backup and resources to provide the ARC Emergency Communications throughout the State.
1. I’m in the process of sending a number of GCARC members who would now like to register with ARES, the registration form, along with the ARES Training Plan.
1. Those of us that have been training for years to be prepared for an emergency activation can now expect opportunities to use our Radio Amateur Licenses, equipment, knowledge of Emergency Communications and Incident Management.
1. The next step is to participate in the joint Simulated Emergency Test (SET) on October 15th, along with the ARC Disaster Technology Communications group to determine our preparedness and identify areas for improvement.
As always, if anyone has any questions or would like more information regarding this opportunity to serve or communities please let me know. My cell phone and email address are below.
Best regards,
