This Saturday is Tech Saturday and with the satellite station now back in operation we’ll be looking at two different topics in this session. First, there are a few good satellite passes between 8:45 and 9:45 AM and I’ll be in the VHF room trying to work them. Come on down then if you’re interested in satellite operations – we’ll have many more opportunities for satellite work but I’m really eager to get on the air and would enjoy showing off the station to others.
Then around 10 AM we’ll do a brief overview of the Flex 3000 transceiver that’s installed in the HF room for those who haven’t used a SDR-type of HF radio. The Flex 3000 is an older radio that has about half of the capability of the Flex 6400 that Sheldon and Jim discussed last night but it still uses the panadapter/waterfall display along with virtual audio and CAT interfaces to programs such as Fl-Digi and WSJT. We’ll do an overview of how that radio works and how to operate it followed by the opportunity for participants to try the radio themselves.
Tech Saturday also provides the opportunity for many informal ad-hoc discussions and help sessions so come on down and hang out with your ham friends. Hope to see many friends there this week.
