Subject: Red Cross Looking For Volunteers

Hi!

While we hams often help the Red Cross respond to disasters, here’s an opportunity to assist our partners in preventing them in the first place. While not as technical as our radio skills, most us can use a screwdriver to help install smoke alarms in this senior housing development in Berkeley Township, Ocean County. ;-)

If you’re interested and might help for all or part of the time, just register using the link for “family and friends” mentioned below. You might wear a callsign badge and get Red Cross volunteers and other interested in getting a License!

Thanks & 73

Hello, New Jersey Red Cross Family!

As you may have heard, our signature Preparedness Event, Sound the Alarm, is just one week away. It's not too late to sign up! Will you consider coming out to help make our neighbors in Central New Jersey safer?

Bring a friend!

This is a great opportunity to bring a friend (or spouse, partner, neighbor or relative) to join in and experience the Red Cross mission. Everyone will be trained on the morning of your shift, so no prior Red Cross experience is needed.

Here are the details:

Sound the Alarm (STA) is happening in a 55+ community, Holiday City, in Berkeley Township, Ocean County, on Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29 from 9am - 3pm. We are building volunteer teams to canvass the neighborhood, educate residents and install free smoke alarms in the community. You can join us on Friday OR Saturday - or both!

Below are the available positions for STA and a link for videos to provide an up-close look at each one.

How to register:

As a current Red Cross Volunteer, click here to register for Friday, April 28 or click here to register for Saturday, April 29.

As I mentioned, please feel free to bring family and friend to serve alongside you. Non-Red Cross Volunteers can register for the day by following this link for Event Based Volunteers:

Detailed instructions for non-Red Cross Volunteer registration are attached.

What to expect:

This is a rain or shine event. Please dress appropriately for the weather; bring a poncho, if needed. There will be a great deal of walking; wear comfortable shoes. This is a community event; friends and family are welcome. Volunteers can be as young as 16 years old with parental consent. Meals and snacks and event-day training will be provided.
