I would like to add that 20m SSB is a very productive band / mode which has
been entirely under-utilized at W2MMD for the past several years, so it is
one that we really need to cover. Activity is primarily daytime and early
evening, but propagation to the west can remain good past midnight. Due to
the many single and two transmitter operations who switch to 40m and 80m at
night, we typically shut down the 20m stations during the overnight hours,
as the band tends to die down at that time. This is a good band for the
operators who are not "night owls". We also have some good antenna
options available for 20m, so all you really need is a radio and a shelter
of some sort. I have in my possession a very nice Cushcraft A3S beam that
was donated to our club by the Mid-Atlantic radio club, and I would like to
see it used for 20m SSB. I know from personal experience that an A3S placed
atop an aluminum extension ladder makes a fine Field Day antenna that will
blow the socks off a vertical or half-wave wire antenna. If you have the
interest, and the ability to field such a station, I urge you to contact
Vinnie as soon as possible. Thanks and 73.
