Two interesting GCARC events will take place this week. At the monthly GCARC meeting on Wednesday night the post-business meeting activity will be an interesting and fun opportunity to test your knowledge of ham radio against other attendees. Let’s see how good those Extra-Class licensees really are! No advance preparation is needed – or allowed – you’ll have to show up to see what’s happening. Zoom attendees will be able to participate but it will be more interesting to attend in person. The meeting is at the Pfeiffer Community Center, 301 Blue Bell Road (Main Street and Blue Bell Road), Williamstown, NJ 08094
This Saturday is also the monthly Tech Saturday event, which has grown significantly in attendance over the last few months. There’s no planned presentation although many of us will be focusing on the WinLink HF station that’s in development. Depending on band conditions we may be able to demo how this system works and how local hams who connect on the 2 meter WinLink gateway can have messages forwarded throughout the world (including to non-ham internet addresses) when the local internet is down. We’ll also have some local VARA-FM stations running in case you’d like to see how to set your HT up to do VARA-FM.
It also looks like there will be some satellite passes during that period – including the brand-new XW-3 satellite – so we’ll be operating the satellite station for those passes. And bring your other technical issues – including programming your HTs if that’s a problem – help will be available.
Note that Clubhouse windows will be open to optimize ventilation and the Clubhouse temperature may be lower than normal, so dress accordingly. Masks are optional. Tech Saturday is at the GCARC Clubhouse on the Gloucester County 4-H Fairgrounds, 235 Bridgeton Pike (Rt 77), Mullica Hill, NJ, 08062.
