Looking at the QST article it appears that the controller is more like an Arduino than a Raspberry Pi. It also looks like most of the major parts are available - see below. The major missing component is the resistive touch touchscreen although a display without the touchscreen is available at the cost listed in the QST article, so I wonder if the article showed the wrong screen.
If enough people are interested in building these devices we could do a bulk order of the parts and schedule a Tech Saturday session to breadboard them. Because of the grounding project and remodeling in the VHF room Tech Saturdays will probably be suspended through April and May so this might be a good summer topic. That delay would also give a few of us time to build them before the session. If you're interested in working independently on this before a Tech Saturday session let me know.

I'd like to build it and have it separately from the pc. However, there may be others that just want it on the PC/Mac. I suppose we can do both. Maybe I can price out the parts with current prices and throw it out there with and updated list.

Sounds like a very useful project. If you are able to procure all of the parts. . . And also a good learning experience.
But, there is a computer program available that seems to make all of this information available, and more, on your shack computer. It’s called DX Toolbox. There are versions for Windows and Macs. It’s available from Black Cat Systems, and it costs $25.00.

Now, if you want to build the project and learn all about the Raspberry Pi, that’s great, and I encourage that. If you’d just like to have the info available, for a lot less $$$ take a look at this program and what it does.
