Subject: POTA Activation planned for Thursday at Tyler Park K-1430

Thursday this week brings us a 60 degree forecast and good weather for activation at Tyler Park. This will be a club activation using the Penn Wireless call sign; W3SK. The club's call is now listed on the POTA website; https://pota.app/#/profile/W3SK

I have also signed up to the POTA Facebook page; https://www.facebook.com/groups/parksontheair

POTA is usually a single operator event whether you're a hunter or activator. I understand the use of multi-op's on POTA is rare and maybe club call signs are even rarer. (will have to look that up) Thursday morning starting about 9am, several PWA members will be out to the North parking lot at Tyler -- just North of the Upper Plantation Field -- setting up antennas and getting ready to make contacts. https://pota.app/#/park/K-1430

This will be our first POTA activation and the first use of POTA for most of us, so please bear with us. Use the Activation page and search for W3SK. https://pota.app/#/activations

We plan to operate on 20 and 40 meters and will have both CW and Phone operators on site. We also plan to have a 2 meter VHF station onsite operating on 146.55 or 147.55 simplex. Local clubs and PWA members are encouraged to look for us on the POTA website and on the 2m band.

Power will be coming from two car size batteries - one is a Duracell group 24DC. The phone operator will be using a Xiegu G90 (20w transceiver) connected to a SGC-237 auto tuner and a 100ft wire. (will need some type of counterpoise wire) The CW operator will be using a FT-817 and a Wolf River.

These are a couple of "official" POTA videos on YouTube regarding Activations. Note on the right hand side of the page is "Activators Content" parts 1 thru 4. Any PWA member coming out to the park should watch all 4 parts. (just makes good common sense)

PS:
It looks like Pete Kobak (K0BAK) was the first to activate Tyler Park (Sept 2017) and has made an amazing number of contacts on POTA as both hunter and activator. I've met the man at one of the local Packrat meeting here in Warminster. This is one of the hams who during the National Parks on the Air operated from some very small places down in Philadelphia, particularly Old City Philadelphia. Nice job Pete..! https://pota.app/#/profile/K0BAK
