[GCARC] FYI local Covid vaccine update

Just a couple things.
My wife (Pfizer) had both shots with no effects. My second shot (Moderna) is scheduled for next Wed. I did not have any effects after my first shot. I'll follow up after I get my 2nd next week. We both are healthcare workers.
I have heard that some of the sites are taking walk-ins, because of no-shows. The vaccines must be used that day, or discarded. If you are near a site, it might be worthwhile to go there in the afternoon and see if they are taking walk-ins in place of no-shows.
Both my wife and I were scheduled for our second shot, when we got our first shots. When you get the first shot, don't leave until they have scheduled you for your second shot. Pfizer is 3 weeks later, Moderna is 4 weeks later.
I had no luck calling anywhere in early Jan. I was able to schedule a shot at Virtua on Jan 6th, even though I was not a Virtua employee, because my employer has a contract with them, and I work at all their hospitals as a contractor and off-site facilities. From what I understand, the phone situation is no better today.
If you still cannot get thru the NJ Covid website to register, try in the middle of the night, after midnight. The website seems jammed during the day.

Thanks for sharing your experience ! I am a manager in the technology office at RCSJ and from what I’m hearing things have been running fairly smoothly. Lines go right in front of my office door (knock if you come by!) and have been non stop every day. You can make reservations now through the state https://covidvaccine.nj.gov
I attached a very rough map sketching the flow of the line. Feel free to email me if you have any questions navigating around.

I had signed up at the NJ portal about 10 days ago (here is the link https://covidvaccine.nj.gov/ ). I am 68 years old which alone is enough to qualify me for category 1b, but I also have 4 additional risk factors. I received an initial email saying I would be notified of the site list. Sure enough I received it, and it contained a useful link to schedule my appointment with a search engine for available appointments at all the sites in NJ (you had to set the parameter to search up to 100 miles from your zip code to maximize this).
> I kept checking every day and there will be appointment times showing at the various sites that someone else may be grabbing at the same time as you and you will get an error that it is not available. But you have to keep refreshing the page and trying frequently. They are constantly updating both available sites as well as aJust last night a list available appointment times for those sites. 10 appointment slots showed up for Rowan. I grabbed one for today at 10A and it let me confirm it!
> I showed up today about 915A to be safe. It's a fairly long walk from Lot E to the check in building but they have golf cart security guys to shuttle you if you need it. The entire process from start to finish was about 30 minutes, not bad, steady stream of patients, and check in was handled by the NJ National Guard.
> When you get the vaccine, they give you a CDC official card, showing the details, which you need to keep to bring back for your 2nd shot. Because you registered through their system, they will automatically book your 2nd dose appointment and you will receive another email with the date/time to show up and it has to be at the same site.
