[GCARC] Mars rover lands this afternoon

Hopefully this will be really cool. The lander will reach Mars this afternoon and will start to deorbit, first using a heat shield and then a parachute. Then the “skycrane” part of the lander will ignite its rockets to hover over Mars and will lower the wheeled part of the lander down to the surface on cables, and when the lander has reached the surface the crane will cut the cables and fly away. Later in the mission the helicopter will fly around on Mars taking pictures. But it all depends on the success of the landing today. TV coverage will begin at 2:15. Check it out
