Greetings All:
In the next month or two, we will be starting work on the W2MMD grounding
improvement project, and I am looking for volunteers for the HF station
grounding task force. We already have a team in place to do the work on the
VHF station, but I don't expect those guys to have to do it all. Plus, when
the weather warms up, we will need an all hands effort to do the outside
work, so in that regard, I will be looking for more volunteers anyway. This
is a big project, but it can be done swiftly if we have enough hands.
The work on the HF station will involve removing the equipment, after
carefully recording the cabling connections, and then installing the
grounding bars and power strips on the wall. The grounding bars will need
to be brought down through the floor for connection to the perimeter
ground, which will be installed when the weather warms up. With proper
planning, this portion of the job could be done in one weekend, and the
station put back together. Ideally, the effort on the VHF station, being
led by the Tech Committee, will be slightly ahead of the HF station effort,
and the HF station task force would only need to roughly duplicate what was
done in the VHF station.
If you are willing and able to help out, please contact me via email as
soon as possible, and let me know if you have any particular skills or
tools which would lend themselves well to the task at hand. As was reported
by Jon Pearce and Ron Block at our last meeting, the largest hurdle that we
need to get over with this is the labor to get it done. With well over 150
members, this should not be a problem for us. We have, in our W2MMD
station, a treasured asset that most radio clubs could only dream of. It
was built over many years entirely with the volunteer labor of the
membership. Let's keep the effort going and make W2MMD better than ever.
Thanks.
