Thanks! I converted my all band dipole into a 160 vertical by tying the twin lead together and feeding it like a vertical with 4 elevated radials. Although the mechanical connections are solid it looks like the rube goldberg that it is but it seems to play. Have to use the tuner but it loads on both 80 and 160. The radials are a full 1/4 wave on 80 and 1/8 wave on 160. From what I've read the short length of the elevated radials, while not optimum, actually doesn't hurt the performance much. Now, I have to work out a portable 2 way switching feed so I can put a matching network at the base of the antenna. Although the antenna loads on both bands thru my Palstar auto tuner there has to be relatively high SWR on the caox run to/from with commensurate added power loss. I think that can be mitigated by the base load. Even if the match is higher than optimum the lower SWR on the feedline theoretically should result in less power loss.

Nice job Dennis, you did fine for limited time. You can actually get exceptionally good rates going just working stateside in these 160 contests. ARRL 160 in Dec is CW and another good one. 73 Darrell AB2E

Also, I looked up towards the end of the contest and I was actually working off my triband antenna. It loaded with the tuner and I was making contacts. A mystery of life! Made some set up tweaks to the vertical and it now takes full power on 160. Looking forward to the ARRL test.      Thanks to Bill and Tony for the QSO's (although it took me a bit to recognize Bill's call!).        73,       Dennis
