After about a week of battling with microwave reception problems and our own shortsightedness we finally got the GOES receiving station at the clubhouse working better than it ever had in the past. The dish is pointed at GOES16 in a geostationary orbit due south and at 44 degrees elevation from the clubhouse, and it constantly transmits high-resolution weather pictures of the earth. K2QA wrote a script to populate a web page with these pix which is at http://skunkworks.w2mmd.org/w2mmd-ds/goespics.php . There’s apparently a lot more data that can be derived from the GOES transmissions that we’ll be delving into over the next few weeks so hopefully we’ll have additional content sometime soon.
Also – the ISS is scheduled to be sending SSTV pictures over the next few days although I haven’t checked to see if they’ll be active when the station is over the US. Nonetheless we’ve programmed the new SatNOGS station (the older satellite antennas on the new tower, now dedicated to SatNOGS reception) to pick up any ISS transmissions on 145.800 over the next few days. Hopefully we’ll have additional “pictures from space” to share by the end of the week.
