I just did the same.  After 47 years as WA2JSG, I applied for a change 
last week for K2CWM (my initials), less dits and dahs on CW hi hi.  Had 
I gone for my ticket in Junior & Senior high school years back in the 
late 50's (yup, I'm that old) as a few of my classmates did (thanks to 
our science teacher), I wudda had a K2 callsign.
This K2CWM callsign as been available for quite awhile, so it was no 
spur of the moment decision, and has now been locked into my FCC 
account, pending approval from the FCC (may take awhile as I'm told).
I'll let the powers-to-be in the club know when I finally get it. It's 
almost like changing your name!
