David, are you using the radio indoors, near a source of electrical noise?

For example, some LEDs are pretty bad and will keep your squelch open.

My old Baofeng UV5-RA makes static noises, but only when I am turning the (old, cheap and worn) volume control.

Otherwise, it is quite when squelched.

Also, some radios have “birdies” when tuned to certain frequencies.

Does your radio make noise regardless of frequency?

I wasn't sure what number ment what, so I tried 1, 5 ,and 9. But it still gave me static when I turn the radios on. I'm going to make a short video and upload it to youtube and send it here.

Thanks

Hi David KB2VEO, Just a guess, but when you say you "changed the gain to max", do you mean that you turned the squelch all the way off?
This would cause a constant hissing sound. If so, try resetting the squelch to a mid level.

Hello everyone. My name is David (KB3VEO) and I'm new here, I hope to meet a lot of you at ham fest. Here is my question. I have a bunch of BF 888s and I am reprogramming them with GMRS frequencies. I save it to the radio and it works, but when I'm not transmitting all I hear is static. I changed the gain to max and still static. I changed it from wide to narrow and still static. It's very frustrating. Any help would be awesome. ThanksDave KB3VEO ______________________________________________________________
