Not heading out tonight, with Snow in the forecast, and looking for
something to do?
Consider firing up that ham radio to give it some exercise this evening!
Starting this afternoon, two radio contests are starting up - the first is
the ARRL's VHF (6 meter) and up contest, and the other is the North
American QSO party SSB, and from our clubhouse, we'd love to make a contact
with you!
First, if you have 6 meter voice capability, look for our W2MMD club
callsign on the air somewhere in the 50.150-50.350 range. And if you have
other bands, like 2 meter capability, tell us during the 6 meter contact,
and we'll steer another antenna over your way to make a second band contact
with you too. Turns out we had 10 people from the club reply to me, and
get on ARRL's pre-register list to be able to submit scores for Gloucester
Co ARC for the ARRLs VHF contest, and some will be out at the clubhouse
this afternoon, tonight, and tomorrow and would be grateful to make
contacts with anyone who does not also operate from our clubhouse for this
contest. (strange wording, but there are rules that say a person can't
operate under more than one callsign in same contest).
Thank you in advance for trying!
The second fun contest to try and make a few contacts in is the North
American QSO party, which is HF bands (160,80,40,20,15,10), voice
(sideband) only, 100 watts max, that starts at the same time as the VHF
contest, but only runs to an hour after midnight tonight.
In addition to the VHF and UHF stations that will be lit up at our W2MMD
clubhouse, we will probably also have the HF rig in action on the big
antenna at the other end of the clubhouse, to make some contacts in the QSO
part at the same time.
Everyone is welcome to stop by the clubhouse tonight to see the stations in
action, if you wish, with option of getting behind the mic, as a guest
operator, for a contact or two, if you wish.
If not venturing out tonight, at least consider turning on your radio from
home and giving W2MMD a call if you hear your club station on one of the
bands tonight.
Hey, it's almost time to get rolling here. Hope to catch you in person, or
on the air tonight!
73, and have fun everyone!
Jim
