Jeff,
I use a bowline to attach ropes to all of my wire antennas, whether on the
end insulators or a feed point attachment such as a balun. The other end
of the rope could have a different knot depending on what I am tying it to
and whether I want to make it tight, keep it loose, or make it adjustable.
Typically I will use a clove hitch to attach the rope to a ladder, tower
leg, or anything round. If I want to make it adjustable I use something
they call a "trucker's knot". Not sure what the formal name is. But the
bowline and clove hitch are the ones I count on the most. Experimenting
with antennas is one of my most favorite activities in the hobby, so I tie
a lot of knots!
