[GCARC] W2MMD Special Event Station in August 2018; information on

Hi all,
Sounds like a fun event. I'm interested in operating (CW), put me on the list.

Some of you might already know this, Petty Island is on the US Islands Award list and has never been activated. This means the operators will be rare DX for the island chasers, so get ready for the pileups!

Here's the info from USIA website:                       (no operations yet)

Maybe I missed another email but what is the background on the special event? Is it just a club operating event or attached to some other meaning? I know, I should attend the meetings, but have been unable to lately.
