It's more than settings storage. It controls the rig and works with an SDR
to give a nice waterfall display. The fact is, there is no other pgm that
does all this with the Yaesu. Yaesu should have included the storage
feature.

$60 for storing settings app sounds high. Kenwood has an excellent rig
control program that is free on their website, and stores settings. Works
great for my TS-590SG.

Also, while all the rigs have their quirks, Icom is not free of them. The
7300 is notorious for front end overload. Google "Icom 7300 front end
overload"

The Kenwood 590SG had the cooling fans installed in the wrong direction (I
checked mine and they were correct).

The Yaesu 3000, the Icom 7300, and the Kenwood 590SG are all priced between
$1,070- $1,300. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them at those
prices.

If anyone is interesting in loggers, I suggest N3FJP's AC Log. I am a
convert from Ham Radio Deluxe. AC log is cheaper, easy to use, virtually big
free, and free lifetime tech support and upgrades. Scott returns emails
promptly. Once Simon sold HRD to the new group, it went to crap.

Vinnie

I like my IC7300 a lot! For those of you who own or are thinking of buying a
Yaesu FTDX3000, read this...The rig has thermal issues. At low duty cycle
and at about 50% max power, it's OK. But if you talk for a while at full
power, when you unkey you will not be able to key next time. Powering off
and on the rig is the only way to fix it. I can imagine one getting messeded
up in a digital mode. I do not know if Yaesu incorporated thermal sensing
that will shut down TX. It takes a while for the fan to come on, so they are
sensing temp somewhere for the fan. Some peeps on the Yaesu groups have seen
this, not just me. Yaesu tried to be innovative by eliminating the power amp
heat sink. The entire chassis is thick cast aluminum, but that does not get
the heat out of the finals efficiently enough. To make matters worse, the
tiny cooling fan has a very small, and restrictive air inlet area, which is
on the rear panel where the hot exit air is hanging around, waiting to be
sucked back in. My fix was to remove the speaker and go with an external
one. I do that anyway. This leaves a nice air inlet next to the fan area.
Now I can run full tilt without this goofy problem. Other than that, I have
no gripes with the rig. BTW, the free Yaesu control pgm does not store the
menu settings to a file. The pgm Win4Yaesu does this and more, and is well
worth the $60. They have the same pgm for the new Icoms, too. Enjoy your new
rigs. Life is good!

Band was a little on the quiet side. Not much activity but the new rig is
working great with the antenna. Two of the US contacts #2 and #3 were with
the KX3 at 10 watts.
