USA during that time period
If you were excited about the chance to see falling space debris today here
in New Jersey, it looks like you will be disappointed.
New new re-entry prediction times have been published this morning, with a
much narrower range of uncertainty of when China's Tiangong-1 space station
will fall from obit.
The updated prediction is for re-entry to occur within +/- 2.5 hours of
00:10 UTC April 8, which we hams recognize as being 4 hours shifted ahead
from our local time.
Expressed in local time, the updated prediction is for re-entry to occur
between somewhere in the 5 hours between 5:40pm and 10:40pm local time,
centered on 8:10pm tonight.
Checking the groundtracks at
http://www.aerospace.org/cords/reentry-predictions/tiangong-1-reentry/ for
where the space station is predicted to be during these 5 hours shows no
passes over the continental USA during this time window.
There is a pass west of Hawaii, and (ironically) there are multiple passes
over mainline China, but from the chart, it looks like New Jersey is spared
this time.
Cheers,
Jim
