Subject: SKYWARN CLASS DATE at Atlantic County EOC
Greetings Friends,
I am happy to announce we have set a date for the NWS SKYWARN Basic Certification Class. This class will be held on Saturday August 12, 2017 at the Tony Canale Training Center 5033 English Creek Ave. Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234. The class will begin promptly at 10 am and last for about 2.5 hours and dismiss around 12:30. This class is free and open to the general public. Children who are interested in taking the class are welcome to attend and we encourage entire families to attend. Weather Spotting is a fun and exciting activity when done safely and with the proper training and the entire family can get involved. You must be 16 years of age or older to obtain an NWS SKYWARN ID Number. However, Atlantic County is in the development stages of starting a Youth SKYWARN Program to help foster their knowledge of Science, Meteorology, Climatology, Technology, Community Service and above all their drive to become Official SKYWARN Spotters upon the age of 16.
SKYWARN is a program designed not just for Ham Radio Operators, but for anyone with a passion for the weather and a desire to serve their community with their passion for Science and Technology. SKYWARN is a community of people including your local Police, Fire, EMS, OEM and YOU working together with the National Weather Service to keep your community informed and safe. I hope not only will you actively take part in SKYWARN but will encourage others in your community to take part as well. Together as a community we are a force all our own to weather a storm in times of Natural Disasters
Please encourage those looking to attend and reserve a seat in the class to email or call me (609-513-9389) to reserve their seat in the class. Once the NWS Registration is up for the class I will let you all know. I will most likely submit registration for all who have already RSVP’d their seat so as to avoid confusion.
Thanks for your time and participation,
Dave Larcombe Sr., KD2KVZ
