[GCARC] W2MMD SITE

Hello Ray, cc: all club members (oops?)

For those phone calls that you have been getting, please direct anyone who
wishes directions for our Hamfest to our web site, w2mmd.org.
There, on the HAMFEST 2015 page, will be found a flyer with printed
directions to our Hamfest location, including GPS coordinates (39.715,
-75.211), that can help get you there.
As we know, but others might not, the Hamfest is at the 4-H fairgrounds on
Route 77, just outside of Mullica Hill, NJ, and not in Pitman NJ, which is
the town for the PO box that shows up on the qrz.com/db/w2mmd site.

As for that Pitman address on the QRZ page, the address info on a QRZ page
is for where someone sends their QSL card, which for us is a PO box in
Pitman NJ. So the QRZ listing is correct in selecting a Pitman location.
Instead of asking why not a Mullica Hill site, you could have asked why we
did we not select the home address of our club's W2MMD license trustee
either as the location on the QRZ site. The answer would have been the
same - because that would not be a Pitman address either.
Ok, so why the water tower's GPS coordinates?
Since we have a PO box in Pitman, and not a street address, we could have
put the geo coordinates on Cory's house (he does live in Pitman), but
(sorry Cory) that location in Pitman is not the most significant location
in Pitman for our club. Instead, the geo coordinates were picked to be the
location of the Pitman water tower where 3 of our 4 repeater systems are
homed (2m, 440, 1.2, the other one being in Washington Township). That way
it has a Pitman address, rather than a Mullica Hill, or other town address,
and has some significance to our club.

Rather clever on wa3uvv's part, don't you think?

Related to this email distribution....
Even though the original email was addressed to Cory, it looks like the
email address used went to the whole club. An oops? And I know I pressed
"reply all" on this email, which has now sent an email to the whole club in
response. Sorry everyone for the spam. Hope the conversation was
interesting.
If there are follow-up questions, please email them to me direct at
jim.n2gxj at gmail.com, or to Cory direct, either at his direct email that was
listed on the referenced QRZ.com/db/w2mmd site (wa3uvv at arrl.net), or the
address that appears in our club roster.

Hope that helps,
Thanks!
Jim
