For many of our club members, operating on 50 Mhz band (6 meters)
is something "of lore". It seems that "nobody" is on this band,
and if it was not for the stories from those who have been
in radio a while that I trust of there having been great conditions,
I would have said this band is not at all Magic.
HOWEVER. I stand corrected.
Last night, even past midnight, and again this morning, it is
very easy to make contacts with stations all over the central part of
our country - including W1AW/9 who is operating out of Wisconsin.
For you digital types, 50.276 is alive with JT65 and an occasional JT9
signal from from "9" "8" "4" and "0" callsign areas.
If you want to give it a try, maybe today is the day.
On these frequencies above HF, it is typical to exchange not only
callsigns and a signal report, but also a "grid square" to identify
your general location.
If asked "what is your grid", an appropriate for Southern NJ is FM29.
Have fun,
Jim
