GCARC members,
we are planning a radio direction finding "fox hunt" from 1-3pm on Saturday afternoon, Oct 5 (so as not to conflict with the morning's emergency response activity).

In the past, we have allowed the first place finding team from the last hunt to be the hidden transmitter for the next hunt, but I am opening up the field a bit this time, and am asking you if you would like to volunteer to be "the radio fox" for the rest of us to try and find in this radio version of hunt-and-seek.
So, any volunteers? Who wants to be the fox this time?

Just reply back to me in the affirmative at TheWrightPlaceNJ at aol.com (Jim Wright, N2GXJ), and I'll give you a call back to answer any questions you might have, and to work out the details.

For an idea of what a radio fox hunt is all about, just ask someone who has done it before, It is really a lot of fun!
The basic idea is that the radio fox will transmit periodically on their 2 meter hand-held on a designated frequency, and the rest of us hunters try and find him by homing-in on his signal using signal strength comparisons until we find him, or an hour has gone by, in which case the fox gives out clues as to where to find him, and then we all meet up and laugh about our adventures afterwards.

And you don't have to be a ham to participate - in fact, having a non-ham as a "designated driver" while you try an home-in on the transmitter's radio signal can work out quite well. Invite the family and friends to join in your car if you like. Hunters are encouraged to partner up to have the most fun in the event. Radiosport fun for all!

Some pictures from previous fox hunts can be found via the "search" on our club web site.

I look forward to your positive response,
