[FreeBay] FF: Gateway laptop and/or accessories

: Several months ago, the latch on the CDWR drive in my Gateway Solo 9500
: broke, and it would no longer stay latched in. So the cooling fan tended
to run.

Was the latch physically broken?  Now that many laptops are getting old, I
have come across many where after so many thousands of cycles, the ramped
gear that actuates the latch doesn't come quite back to normal, that is,
after one revoltion it is stuck open rather than closed.  In each and every
case I have removed the bottom cover of the CD drive and turned the gear
about 180º making it good for another many thousands of cycles, best of all,
saving $$$$$.  Of course, if it is actually broken and you have pieces in
your hand, this won't work without mechanical repair.
