The only way that I knew the circuit was there, was that I discovered it
once when I was replacing the cells in my old original battery pack ! 
I've seen the schematic of the 202 also, but don't recall seeing the
charge controller circuit on it either.  But then, the battery packs are
most likely built by another manaufacturer than the 202 was.  I know the
202 packs will fit my old Icom IC-4AT 440 HT's, so they are probably a
generic battery pack !
