FORT PIERCE AMATEUR RADIO CLUB - MINUTES - 2/10/2010
The regular monthly meeting of the Fort Pierce Amateur Radio Club was chaired by President, Art Lindell, W4ZEF. Attendance was 16.
MINUTES and TREASURY: The minutes of the January meeting and Carl, KF4KCI’s Treasury report were approved.
FIELD DAY: President Art, W4ZEF, said that he and Carl, KF4KCI, will meet with IRSC staff to discuss using the Public Safety Training Complex for Field Day. Art said that the date is open now and he expects it to be approved. They will meet to make sure that we can meet their rules and guidelines. Art asked for volunteers to be co-chairpersons for Field Day. There were no takers.
Carl, KF4KCI, and Art, W4ZEF, told about making the club donation to IRSC President Dr. Massey. Carl said the donation was very well received by Dr, Massey, and that it was a good idea to reconnect with him and to remind him of our club.
Kurt, W4KFH, said that he thought it might be a good idea to better promote, through the college, our V.E. Test Sessions and any classes we might have. The group discussed how the IRSC Homeland Security Department sponsored classes last year.
Dues: We discussed our recent increase in membership dues, which will help support IRSC. We discussed how each member might encourage their friends, who are over-due, to pay their dues.
Ted, W4ZE, told about the FPL “practice” Nuclear Plant drill that took place January 27th. The drill was a radioactive water leak. The “real” drill will be February 24th. Ted said that he would like to use Packet for the drill. He said that there seems to be a low deviation problem on the EOC Packet radios.
HAMFEST: There was just a short Hamfest discussion. Art, W4ZEF, said that John, W8RAT, agreed to solicit vendors while he attends other Hamfests. We decided to have flyers ready for the Orlando, West Palm Beach (March 13th), and Stuart (March 21st) Hamfests. Kurt, W4KFH, and Steve, N4SGL, said that they would get the flyers to the West Palm Hamfest. Steve said that he will talk to AMSAT about taking a free table and possibly putting on a forum.
We discussed our club and other clubs, possibly getting state or federal grants to install D-STAR repeaters locally and throughout the state.
