FORT PIERCE AMATEUR RADIO CLUB - MINUTES - 6/9/2010
The regular monthly meeting of the Fort Pierce Amateur Radio Club was chaired by Vice President, Keith Wood, W4RPE. Attendance was 29, including Roger, K4RS, over SKYPE. Visitors were Jaun, WB0GZM, Sing, AJ4VS, and Art's brother Bruce Lindell, WA4ZEF.
MINUTES: There are no minutes of the May meeting as it was a special Field Day meeting held at the Field Day site.
TREASURY: Treasurer Carl, KF4KCI, said that there has been no change since last month, and therefore no report.
Vice President Keith Wood announced that our President Art Lindell, W4ZEF, passed away
this last weekend. Keith asked that we have a moment of silence in honor of Art. Art's brother Bruce Lindell, WA4ZEF, and Art's son-in-law Steve Schmelz, KJ4OSM, joined us for this meeting and told us how much the club meant to Art.
Kurt, W4KFH, talked about how Art, W4ZEF, felt that there was no reason for ego or personality conflicts among hams and ham clubs. Kurt said that as a legacy to Art, that we should push for cooperation between amateur radio clubs concerning Hamfests and Field Day.
HAMFEST: Pete, KD4SPW, said that he would call the ARRL to order Hamfest flyer mailing labels. He said that Art wanted to have them so that we could put them together at Field Day. Joe, KD4BTD, said that we have 2 rooms reserved for forums. We discussed that we still will need to here from groups wanting forum room space. We will have to decide at the July meeting if we will have the August meeting at the Hamfest site as we have before. The KSU building has been remodeled and we might want to check it out before hand. Carl, W7RCW, will have to check on cooking access. Steve, N4SGL, said that he and the Port St. Lucie Amateur Radio Assoc. VE's will be handling the VE testing at our Hamfest this year. Kevin, W4KKW, said that he will take care of ordering the Hamfest prizes.
Kevin, W4KKW, said that he needs another VE for July's test session. He got volunteers, including Cheryl, N9SRO.
FIELD DAY: We had a short discussion about our scaling back the Field Day food somewhat, logging, and some other issues.
ART: Art's brother Bruce, WA4ZEF, thanked the club for all the nice words and remembrances about Art that were mentioned on the Club's net the previous night. Bruce told us some stories about Art, notably how there voices were alike and they could fool their wives on the phone years ago. He also said how important it was to Art to try to get a digital repeater on the air locally. Carl, W7RCW, told of a flower arrangement he ordered for Art's service. Carl said that Art's wife Jenny asked him to perform Art's eulogy. Carl said that he will ask during the eulogy if anyone else would like to speak. Kurt, W4KFH, reminded us of Art's e-mail signature "IF YOU CAN READ THIS, THANK A TEACHER. IF YOU CAN READ IT IN ENGLISH, THANK A VETERAN." Kurt said that it is so appropriate. Carl said that Jenny told him how Art hated suit and ties and Jenny said that jeans and a tee-shirt are fine for Art's service.
We discussed looking for club shirts again. The color "JADE" in a polo with pocket again seems unavailable.
