FORT PIERCE AMATEUR RADIO CLUB - MINUTES - 8/9/2006
The regular monthly meeting of the Fort Pierce Amateur Radio Club was
chaired by President Art Lindell, W4ZEF. Attendance was 15. Visiting was
Sherwin, KA9COD.
MINUTES: The minutes of the July meeting were approved as distributed.
TREASURY: Treasurer Carl, KF4KCI’s report was approved as distributed.
Total funds: (designated for WQCS: $45)
$1920.54.
OLD BUSINESS
CLUB HF RADIO: President Art, W4ZEF, asked Ernie, KF4IHX, if he
picked up our club KENWOOD HF radio from INTERNATIONAL RADIO. Ernie said yes and
the radio works well.
REPEATER: Art, W4ZEF, asked Ernie, KF4IHX, or Kevin, W4KKW, to give
an update on the repeater. Ernie said that he and Kevin spent many hours
working on the repeater a few Saturdays ago. They were able to re-wire the link
controller, after a call to Ron, the manufacturer of the link box and the
controllers. Now the 2 meter and 440 repeaters can be linked. Ernie said that they
will still have to install the link radio at a later date. Art asked for a round
of applause for Ernie and Kevin, for all the work they have done on the
repeaters.
IRLP/ECHOLINK: Kevin, W4KKW, said that we are waiting for the install
of a link radio to have full functions all the time.
Art, W4ZEF, said started a discussion about our club buying 2 items
from Bill, N4XEO’s, estate, the GAP HF antenna and Bill’s YAESU FT-847 HF radio.
Art said the price to the club for the antenna is $125 and the price for the
radio is $500. Art made a motion, seconded by Edgar, KF4NUR, for the club to
purchase both. After discussion, Art changed the motion to buy the radio and
try to sell the antenna at the HAMFEST. If the antenna doesn’t sell, then the
club will buy it. Greg, KB4VVE, seconded the new motion and it passed.
Art, W4ZEF, asked Joe, KD4BTD, if he had heard anything more about
having a Special Event Station at the UDT/SEAL MUSEUM’s upcoming VETERAN’S DAY
CELEBRATION.
HAMFEST: We discussed a few HAMFEST issues.
NEW BUSINESS
Herb, W1QPD, brought an old donation of $7 to the club.
CLUB TRUSTEE: President Art, W4ZEF, said he would like to have a
record in the minutes about our club TRUSTEE position. He said that Kevin,
W4KKW, has agreed to be our club’s new TRUSTEE since Bill, N4XEO’s, passing. Art
said that any changes to the repeater must be approved by club vote. He said
that the FCC wants a record in the club minutes who owns the club repeaters,
etc. to help with any future problems.
Here is the statement for the record:
Kevin, W4KKW, or anyone holding the position of Fort Pierce Amateur
Radio Club Trustee, will be TRUSTEE of all W4AKH club repeaters. At any time that
the TRUSTEE wishes to do something without the club’s permission, the club
can vote to remove him as TRUSTEE. At any time that the club will’s, the club
can make any changes to the repeaters, add any equipment, take away any
equipment, and it has nothing to do with the TRUSTEE. The TRUSTEE will have no say in
it other than having a vote as any club member.
Art, W4ZEF, said having this record in the minutes will help prevent
any disgruntled TRUSTEE from trying to take over the club repeaters and/or the
Club’s assets. If our club has a problem with the TRUSTEE, the club members
will then hold a meeting to vote to remove the TRUSTEE and vote in a new TRUSTEE.
The FCC can then help resolve any issues.
Carl, KF4KCI, said that the club has already voted for Kevin to be the
TRUSTEE at the May meeting. Art said he would like the club to vote again for
TRUSTEE with these conditions he has read into the record.
Greg, KB4VVE, made a motion for Kevin, W4KKW, to be our club TRUSTEE,
under the conditions stated by Art, W4ZEF. Paul, KG4MCE, seconded the motion,
and it passed.
The meeting closed and more HAMFEST discussions continued.
