Hi everyone,
>From time to time I send you additional e-mail messages about items of
interest. This is one of those messages -- the regular section summary
with reports will be sent around the fifteenth of the month. There are
several important events scheduled for this month.

WX4NHC TEST June 3
Amateur Radio Station at the National Hurricane Center WX4NHC Hurricane
Season 2006 On-The-Air Station Test Saturday, June 3rd from 9 AM - 6
PM EST (1300z-2200z).
The purpose of this annual Station Test is to test all radio equipment,
computers and antennas using as many modes and frequencies as possible.
This is not a Contest or simulated Hurricane Exercise.
WX4NHC will be On-The-Air on HF, VHF, UHF and 2 & 30 meter APRS.
Phone frequencies +/- QRM: 7.268mhz, 14.325mhz, 21.325mhz, 28.525mhz.
CW will be on 14.035, 21.035 and 28.035. PSK31 on 14.070.
To find on HF, try using one of the DX Spotting Networks, Such as the
DX Summit Web Site: http://oh2aq.kolumbus.com/dxs/
Select "DX-Spots" 50, 250 or 1,000 or select "Spot Database Search" and
enter WX4NHC.
VoIP Hurricane Net 1pm-3pm EDT (1700z-1900z) (IRLP node 9508 / EchoLink
WX-TALK Conference). http://www.voipwx.net/
South Florida area VHF & UHF Repeaters & simplex.
Report Call sign, Signal Report, Location and Name. Short Weather
Report ("Sunny", or "Rain", etc.)
Non-Hams are invited to submit their actual weather using the On-Line
Hurricane Report Form at http://www.wx4nhc.org/WX-form1.html
QSL Cards are available via WD4R. Please S.A.S.E. (Please do not send
QSLs directly to the Hurricane Center.)

KID'S DAY June 17
Kid's Day is intended to encourage young people (licensed or not) to
enjoy Amateur Radio. It can give young people hands-on on-the-air
experience so they might develop an interest in pursuing a license in
the future. It is intended to give hams a chance to share their station
with children. Try taking radios to a public place, even just a
2-meter radio to a park that is frequented by children.
Time: 1800 to 2400Z. No limit on operating time.
Suggested exchange: Name, age, location and favorite color. You are
encouraged to work the same station again if an operator has changed.
Call "CQ Kid's Day."
Suggested Frequencies: 28350 to 28400 kHz, 21380 to 21400, 14270 to
14300 kHz and 2-meter repeater frequencies with permission from your
area repeater sponsor. Observe third party traffic restrictions when
making DX QSOs.

TAKE YOUR HT TO WORK DAY June 20
On Tuesday, June 20 we are encouraging all hams in the US that have an
HT to take it with them to work. Wear it on your belt, put it on your
desk or some other place where your co-workers can see it. We hope
that it will raise curiosity and questions. This is a chance for you
to talk to them about ham radio! At lunchtime, show them how it works.
Make some contacts while they are watching. Even better, let them
talk on the radio! Then invite your co-workers to come see you at
Field Day weekend. There they can meet even more hams, see a full
station in simulated emergency operations, learn more and get
information so that they too can get their ham radio license.
There will be monitors on various repeaters randomly scattered
throughout the country. If you are heard during the lunch hour of 12
to 1 (your local time) participating in HT Workday, showing your radio
to a non-ham, you just might have one of the special monitors come back
to you telling you you've just won a prize from ARRL.

FIELD DAY June 24-25
Please send me the location and the call(s) for your group's Field Day
exercise. Do not assume that I know where you are holding the event,
even if I am on your newsletter mail list. Just send me a message
marked FD for (your club). I will post them within a day or two of
receipt to www.arrl.org/sections/SFL.html. This year I and other
section officials will not make long trips to visit Field Day sites. I
feel the budget is better used for other items this year, considering
the cost of fuel.
I will be operating from the home QTH with the OM -- David, W4DKB.
We'll be using CW, SSB, PSK-31, and RTTY. If you hear us please
deliver the NTS message to the Section manager directly to us and claim
your bonus points. I will also try to check into various NTS nets to
collect these messages. You can also use Winlink and packet to put the
messages into the system.

Take part in one or all of the above events. It is hurricane season
(sigh) and these events are a fun way to test your personal equipment
and your readiness. And, don't forget a news release for each of these
events.

There are two test sessions scheduled this month for the ARRL EMCOMM
courses.
Wednesday, June 14, 7 PM in Vero Beach -- contact me for additional
information
Saturday, June 24, 9:00 AM in Miami- full review of Level 1 course
followed by final exam. Preregistration is required -- contact Harry,
N3HN

Stay safe and stay on the air.
73,
Sherri, W4STB
