I received a call from a non ham member of the Flagler Palm Coast Amateur radio club wondering about Veterans Day participation in this event. Perhaps setting up a station at the UDT Museum. This is what he told me.
The Zodiac River Rats, (named by Chief Patches Watson), are once again cruising the Atlantic Intercoastal, and veterans of all services are invited to attend. We will depart Jacksonville a and travel down the ICW, (Intercoastal Waterway) in Zodiac rubber boats to attend the Veterans Day muster at the UDT/SEAL Museum in Fort Pierce, FL. We will make 2 overnight stops along the way in Daytona Beach and Melbourne. The purpose of this evolution is to honor our Veterans, fly the colors down the intercoastal, and raise some cash for the museum. This has a large impact as there will be media coverage; both radio, TV, and papers. There will be a professional photographer on board to record the event for a possible TV special. This helps bring attention to the museum also and will increase the memberships. If we are not careful, we may even have some fun too. You will meet some great people, ride in a Zodiac, and get your name in the paper!
This would be on Veteran's dAY weekend. While they ride on the boats, they usually have some hams on board and thought it might be cool to have a station at the Museum as a special event. I said I would pitch it at the meeting but I can't be there so please pass it along tomorrow night. If anyone wants more info, they can call Bob Matson.
