Subject: Breaking news in the SFL Section
Hello everyone,
This is a short message to tell you of some recent good news items.
The usual monthly reports and news will be coming your way in about a
week. I'm in the process of adding news to the section news page so
please check there for other items of interest and links for
information and reporting instructions.
On Tuesday, April 11, ARRL and Amateur Radio operators will host an
afternoon informational session at the National Hurricane Conference in
Orlando, Florida. You are invited to attend this meeting from 1:30 PM
to 5:00 PM at the Rosen Centre, 9840 International Drive. Amateur Radio
operators, including representatives from the ARRL Field Organization
and League Headquarters, are planning to discuss their experiences and
lessons learned during the unprecedented 2004 and 2005 hurricane
seasons. The forum expects to address current issues in Amateur Radio
emergency communications and provide a chance to highlight best
practices.
Details about the 28th Annual National Hurricane Conference may be
found at www.HurricaneMeeting.com
Conference registration is not necessary for Amateur Radio operators
who only wish to attend the Amateur Radio Session on Tuesday afternoon,
April 11.
Leon Katz, K2EWB, of Palm Beach Gardens has been recognized by ARRL for
50 years of continuous membership with the National Association for
Amateur Radio. In addition, Leon was named an honorary member of ARRL's
Diamond Club. On a personal note, Jeff Beals, WA4AW has known Leon over
40 years as he tested him for his Novice license in Woodmere, Long
Island, when Jeff was 12 years old. Our ongratulations to Leon on a
long and valued career as an amateur radio operator.
Two of our members are recipients of a 2006 Jeffersonian Award which
recognizes public service. Cheryl, N9SRO and Joe Lenartine, KD4BTD of
Fort Pierce were recognized for their work with the Treasure Coast's
blind community. Both are active members of several local radio clubs
and Joe is an ARRL Public Information Officer. If you've attended the
Fort Pierce Hamfest you know Cheryl -- she does the friendly talk-in
and the announcements on-site. Congratulations to Cheryl and Joe for
this well deserved award.
