First Saturday CFAR Foxhunt Report, January 2026
I hid here, 41.827299, -88.212351 at Summer Lakes Park in Warrenville.
Weather was 21F, overcast, calm winds. The park boarders Fermilab on the
east side and is 1/2 mile north of Rt 56 at the end of a street. I
wanted a south heading from the new start point, Hanover Park Metra
Station. I ran 50 watts to my broadside foxhunt array with 11 dBi and
was 11 miles away. The microphone was acting up causing erratic radio
behavior and digital hash noise on transmit audio. The hunters were
released at 8:07 PM. First on the scene at 8:40 was KC9SEM and crew.
Matt was familiar with the area, being his old UPS route, "he's in the
park". Second at 8:50 was W9RA, Don hesitated a moment in the parking
lot until he saw the red VW bumper protruding from behind the building.
3rd at 9:10 was N9CBA. My foxhunt array has a 42 degree -3 db pattern
and is 90 degrees wide at -20 db, behind the main beam the signal is
affected by ground clutter and this is what WD9EXW got caught up in.
John walked in the half mile from rt 56 and scored at 9:25. Munches were
at a new Culvers on Rt 59, less than 1 mile S.E.
Results:
1) KC9SEM 8:40
2) W9RA 8:50
3) N9CBA 9:10
4) WD9EXW 9:25
