[FoxHunt] Albuquerque T-Hunt Report -- March 3

We use a mix of controllers. Our group has a 5 set of club fox boxes and a
beacon transmitter based on a modified version of the PIC based MFC
controller (ARDF cycle). They operate on VHF and HF See
http://home.att.net/~wb8wfk/equipment.html

Most members of the group also have personal controllers that they have
built over the years. My most recent one is a set of PIC "C" code based
controllers for 80 meter mini ARDF transmitters, the balance of my
collection is a VHF voice recorder controller (from a 73's article many
moons ago), an 8051 based controller and two MFC controllers.

Another member of our group has a PICCON controller.

Brian had a voice recorder based controller mini fox at the last car hunt
for a secondary sniff.

However our club controllers get the most use.

Sometimes a PIC with special code finds its way into the club controller on
a car hunt. On one hunt Mike K5ATM had modified the code to control a multi
port antenna switch. Each time it came on it was on a different antenna. The
transmitter, switch and feed line network was placed underground and the
antennas located several feet away. Each antenna was in a different bush. It
made for an interesting end point sniff as it would come from a different
direction each time it came on when you were close to it.

On another hunt Mike had a version of code that was programmed to come on
for a few seconds and beep a couple of times. Every 5 min it would ID real
fast. The Doppler worked well on that one.

Sounds like a good time. I think I've seen pictures of
that yagi somewhere on a website. What are you guys
using for a transmitter/controller?

I need to get a hunt put together for central
southwest Iowa. I run a Kenwood TR2500 ht controlled
by a Piccon controller that I assembled. With the ht
antenna and 300mw output, it can be heard quite a ways
away. It's a good little package to hunt.

Anyway, keep up the goos work and keep us informed.
