All --
I've always felt that DFing is an excellent idea for scouts. When I
staffed K2BSA at the 2001 National Jamboree I introduced t-hunting to the
scouts by setting up various foxes and letting them DF them with HTs,
attenuators and tape measure beams. It was a great hit because there was
an element of challenge whether it's traditional hunting or ARDF.
I currently serve as the chairman of ARRL's ad-hoc Committee on Scouting,
charged to explore ways to improve ARRL's relationship with Scouting
organizations. We're at work doing just that, though what we find needs
to be presented and approved by the full Board before anything is
implemented. I have had in my notes for a long time "Fox hunting" so our
group can explore a way to get DFing in the hands of scouting.
For those of you who live in areas that conducts ARDF and traditional
hunting, look up your nearby Scout troops and invite them along...or host
an event just for them as some people on this group have done. With
clever instruction and a bit of patience, you might just turn some of them
in dedicated hunters...and even Hams.
By the way, folks used to post their hunt reports on this list a whole
bunch back then...where's that gone to? Stand by and I'll post one of the
last reports from the Albuquerque Transmitter Hunters when I conducted the
hunt.
