Try a small loop. Use the broadside null which can be very
sharp. A 6 inch diameter should be ok. One is sold by Arrow
Antennas or you can make one from a hunk of 1/4 inch copper
tubing and a hank of wire.
Most radios are not shielded well enough to get in close so
maybe try a simple sniffer made from a diode and a
voltmeter.
